Day 3: After Loss Photo
October 3,2012
When it came to trying to find only one after loss photo is wasn't the easiest task. Since I have so many photos I love, I decided to make a collage with a handful of my favorites.
These pictures were taken in the precious hours we spent with Gabriel. How do you fit a lifetime of love and kisses into the mere seconds you will only ever have? These pictures speak so many words, they give a glimpse into a shattered world that is a taboo to even talk about. The statistics are shocking, thousands and thousands or babies never make it to their first birthday, whether it be from SIDS, stillbirth, early or late miscarriage, ectopic pregnancies or the numerous conditions and diseases that steal our children away to soon.
This photography project is being done to hopefully raise awareness. Unlike cancer, deaths from texting and driving, drunk driving and so many other things people feel open enough to talk about, most times women and men alike are made to believe the loss of their child wasn't as devastating as they think. We are not encouraged to openly grief, and it can be even worse for families that experienced an early loss. If you find out a friend or family member has lost a child, I encourage you to do your research about what to do and what not to do, what to say and what not to say. It could make a world of difference.
